Everyone Has a Super Power

Happy Monday!

I think everyone has a super power.

And I think I finally am starting to understand my own.

Some people think I take my shirt off for attention, but that’s not true. And just for the record, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, especially if you work hard to stay fit.

When my shirt is off or I am expressing myself in a way that is unique to me – to whatever it is that I feel in that moment, I’m not scared/nervous/anxious.

It’s more than just my body, whether it’s being outrageous or goofy (an alter ego of mine), wearing weird socks that don’t match, letting go & dancing like a fool, or anything else I do, what I’ve come to realize is that if I’m not forging my own path in my own unique way, I lose my super power. And when I lose my super power, I go back to feeling like that 10 year old shy, insecure boy getting pulled out of class to go to a special reading or speech class.

My – your – super power is feeling comfortable in your own skin and allowing whatever else happens that speaks to the truth of who you are.

It’s a “super power” because no one else has what you have. Each of us are amazingly unique in our own way; we feel and think differently.

Today, I’m encouraging you to express more of YOU.

It’s like anything else meaningful in life, always really scary at first but it becomes easier as you realize there truly is nothing to fear. As you start to take steps, you’ll see that it’s not as bad as you thought and you’ll start to feel better about yourself.

In fact, the only real consequence here is holding back what makes you, you.

Sure, there will be people who will say dumb or rude things, both intentionally and unintentionally. But really, who are they? They’re fellow human beings with just as many imperfections as you and possibly more weaknesses, because in an effort to make themselves feel better they are trying to put you down. Making yourself feel better at the expense of another is just plain sad.

When you allow someone’s opinion to get to you, you elevate them onto a pedestal and minimize yourself.

Screw that.

It’s good to listen to and consider constructive feedback, but why let anyone else but you write the story that is your life?

TAKE BACK THE PEN and you’ll find your super power.

As you continue on your journey to be your best self, remember it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

Along the way to harnessing your super power, you’ll find your kryptonite…the stuff that really gets to you.

I encourage you to not run away from or try to hide from your kryptonite. Because confronting and controlling it is where your real growth lies.

There will always be things that challenge you and make you feel afraid. But rising to meet those challenges—and not avoid them—is what life is all about.

Above all, remember that you are not alone. We are all on this journey together and if you need any help, please reach out…I’d be honored to hop on the phone with you.
