What Do You Need to Hear?

Happy Monday!


Client: I’m pissed I only lost 2 lbs! I’ve been coming for past 2 weeks and working my butt off!!!

Joe: 2 LBS! That’s great! But more importantly, how do you feel?

Client: I have a lot more energy! And I’m not nearly as bloated as I was! I am just frustrated with the scale.

Joe: Hmm okay. Well how is your nutrition?

Client: Ah, horrible!

Joe: Are you sh*tting me?! (laughing). How could you expect to see dramatic change if you’re eating like crap?


People, that was a real life conversation! I do give the client credit for telling the truth when asked about their nutrition because I’ve been lied to several times before and it’s super annoying. Neither I nor my team are here to judge. Honestly, I am not too concerned with what you eat AS LONG AS you’re getting basic nutrients, your health is good (you’re not eating so poorly that it’s impacting your heart/cholesterol/BP) and you are happy with where you’re at.

But if YOU are not happy with where you are at, you aren’t doing yourself any favors by lying (whether consciously or subconsciously) about what you’re really eating. What I mean by lying subconsciously is you claiming you are eating clean without providing the proof of a detailed food log.  We see this all the time. The client truly believes he/she is eating right, but when we review the food log together, there are often many red flags.

What do you need to hear?

The truth can be tough to swallow. Trust me on this—I know from deliberately choosing not to see it on several occasions. But if we’re not honest with ourselves, we are just setting ourselves up for even more frustration because nothing will change.

The truth is the truth and will always be the truth, whether we want it to be or not.  So straighten up and face it!

It’s when you face it head on that you’ll be able to see the change you want to see.
