Real Magic That Will Make Your Life Better

Happy Monday!

Pre-COVID19, there was struggle too.

For some of us, it felt just as bad then as it does now. But if we were to compare where we were at before to where we are at now, it’s likely we would agree that the struggle we faced before is much less than what we face now.

Yet whatever it was before was hard and challenging.

What is bothering us is what we perceive to be the issue to be based on the thoughts our ego conjures up from our inner fears and what the media tells us. But what we perceive as the issue is often not what is really the issue.

What we perceive is influenced by what people around us think/say/do, the headlines or posts jump out at us, what the mass media blasts 24/7, and how our ego leverages the context of what is going on in society to project our deepest fears.

It’s extremely difficult to filter through that tremendous noise and distraction to reach the truth.

Every one of those forces are powerful, convincing, and sometimes true in its context. It is easy to get sucked in to what you think you should think or what you should do, based on all of these outside forces. But doing so will not make you any safer or happier.

Safety and happiness lie is within. You have tremendous power, beyond everything else in the outside world.

Look around and find someone you admire. That person is not better than you. What makes that person unique in your eyes is that they are demonstrating traits you identify as valuable. If you are able to perceive something as valuable or empowering, it’s because you have that within yourself too…otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see it!

All that is blocking you is your awareness of your true greatness within. It’s the same as looking at a diamond; sparkly and absolutely stunning. On the simplest level, it’s a special, rare rock. But the process of mining a diamond is vast and what you see in the jewelry store or on someone’s finger is the byproduct of layer upon layer of a process that would blow your mind.

There’s a quote from Gautama Buddha (circa 500 B.C.) that I recently came across that speaks to this idea of the magical power within you:

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so let us all be thankful.”

If you are truly grateful, then you see all that you are and all that you have. When you do you are in tune with what is real in the moment—where no outside force or fear can affect you.

As humans we are extremely sensitive to anything that makes us feel fearful.

As you move through today, you will hear and see things that make you fearful. You will be upset and angry at something at some point. When any sort of negative feeling arises, catch yourself. Find something to be truly grateful for…that you really mean.

In other words, think about the opposite of that fear. If something is fearful for you, that means the opposite of that thing is true for you, otherwise you wouldn’t be fearful of losing it.
